Cochin - India

Cochin (Kochi), is in Kerala and is made up of a fascinating mixture of Portuguese, Dutch, Jewish, Chinese and British Cultures. Once known as the centre of the Indian spice trade, no visit is complete without a trip to the 19th century Mattancherry Palace built by the Portuguese.

Many Indian antiques and handcraft shops are in Mattancherry. From sandalwood and rosewood carvings, antiques, spices, coconut fibre items, clothing to inlaid boxes, there's lots to buy.
